to get the true flavor of the event (with this year's updates coming soon).
This year will be the twenty-third year for our ELVF race at Road America.  Last year’s entry list spanned the United States and Canada, from Massachusetts to Washington and California to Florida; 23 states in all. The 2008 ELVF will feature a Sprite/Midget Challenge.  We will be honoring the 50th anniversary of the Sprite.  These remarkable little cars have been racing since the year they were produced and are still in current race activities today.  It would be very difficult to find any other marque or model that can boast that kind of longevity.

Registration begins Thursday.  Friday is a practice day, with each group getting two sessions. That should give you ample seat time to get reacquainted with the longest and fastest road course in North America.  In 2007 the enduro was changed to Friday afternoon and it was an overwhelming success.  Due to the good response from the drivers, we will continue with the enduro on Friday in 2008.   The Friday night “Welcome to the ELVF” party has become a favorite tradition. You can also enjoy the featured marque race car/streetcar concours in conjunction with the chili dinner.

Saturday we have qualifying sessions and a sprint race.  Sunday mornings are for warm-up sessions and late morning the race sessions begin.  There is also lunchtime touring available to spectators and racecars on both Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday if your schedule permits, you may want to participate in the original street course re-enactment tour.  Police escort racecars and streetcars on the original public roads that the first races were run on.  The featured marque cars lead the tour behind the police escort!  This is open to the public.  These roads are listed as a national historic monument.  Along with Watkins Glen these are the only two sets of roads to be listed as such.  We have been doing the re-enactment tour for seventeen years and it attracted over one hundred fifty cars in 2007.  The cars finish the tour and are parked on part of the original street course in the heart of the Village of Elkhart Lake.  Participants are encouraged to dress in period attire for their car.  The best costume winner gets their name engraved on the “Spirit of Elkhart Lake” cup and the trophy is kept in the window of an Elkhart Lake Business. This event has been thoroughly enjoyed by the participants and the spectators.

Our Saturday evening banquet will be held at The Osthoff Resort, which borders the original road course and overlooks Elkhart Lake. “Gather on the Green” held on the grounds of the Osthoff, is a classic car display featuring over thirty cars. Cocktails, conversation and classics will be enjoyed by all. The show begins in the afternoon and ends when the banquet starts. This is by invitation only for a select group of cars. If you would like to display one of your cars please contact us with your interest. Our second year saw a lot of growth in this event and we expect even more interest this year. This is rapidly becoming a must do event.

VSCDA tries to emphasize the right attitude in our vintage racing events.  The “Vintage Spirit Award” is meant to recognize the driver that embodies the true vintage spirit.  The “Vintage Spirit Award” is a specifically designed trophy to be presented to one driver in each race group.

You can get a true flavor of the event by going to our website, www.raceelvf.org. You’ll see racing action shots 2006. They include pictures from every race group, featured marque and enduro. You will also see coverage of the Road Course Re-enactment, Gather on the Green, the banquet and special guest driver shots. The expanded site will also list our sponsors and updated information. (2007 will be updated soon.)
