VSCDA Buddy System
The VSCDA uses a Buddy System to welcome new members and assist them in getting acquainted
with the VSCDA, its events, its policies, and any other aspects of vintage racing
VSCDA-style. Any new member, regardless of his or her past racing experience, may request
a buddy to be assigned from a pool of existing VSCDA members.
An experienced member is assigned based on the racing group (we
have eight regular race groups) in which new member's car best fits. Each race group has a
VSCDA Group Representative who is familiar with most of the experienced drivers in that
race group. The Group Representative will try to match a buddy to a new member's
background and interests as indicated in your membership application.
The VSCDA tries to operate like a club. We think the buddy system produces more involved
and enthusiastic members, who are more quickly and successfully integrated into our racing
format and more quickly introduced to other members.
At VSCDA racing events, the buddy system can help a new member with basic orientation
(good paddock locations, route to the false grid, local hotels) and also arrange for some
help around the track itself (driving line, gearing, tricky corners).
Ideally, each new member will sooner or later be both able and willing to serve as a buddy
for someone else.
When you join be sure to let the office know that you want a buddy. Call Judy at (616)
949-8281 or email her at: vscda@iserv.net
